Emin Gün Sirer introduces ‘incredibly strong’ new consensus protocols

According to the news in CoinDesk, Cornell University professor, Turkish computer scientist and Blockchain researcher Emin Gün Sirer introduced new protocols at Token Summit III in New York.

Emin Gun Sirer, Blockchain announced that they combined what they called the “classical consensus” and “Nakamoto consensus” models in their decision-making network.

The way this protocol works is incredibly simple, but also incredibly powerful.

Sirer and his team have spent months working on the whitepaper for this family of protocols. However, Sirer said the protocol was developed by a team nicknamed “Team Rocket.”

Sirer; Snowflake said that the protocols, called Snowball and Avalanche, randomly sample network participants, and as a result, the protocols will choose a single outcome.

The following statements were included in the whitepaper:

“Inspired by gossip algorithms, this new The protocol family achieves its security through an intentional metastable mechanism.. Specifically, the system works by repeatedly sampling the network and routing the correct nodes to the same outcome.”

During Sirer talk, Nakamoto consensus protocols require miners to accept a particular decision, whereas the classical consensus requires that miners agree to a particular decision in a third of the time.
